Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is targeting the first quarter of 2027 for a proposed citizenship by investment program.

Prime Minister Godwin Friday said the government is developing a model with stronger applicant checks, closer government oversight and regional coordination. The launch window remains provisional.

## Stronger Due Diligence and Government Oversight

Speaking to Television Caribbean, Friday said a consultancy is designing the program to address concerns raised by the European Union and other countries.

He outlined more extensive due diligence and closer management through the government’s own unit. The proposed framework would also involve coordination within the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), with a monitoring role for the central bank.

Friday did not explain how that monitoring would work. His remarks set out the government’s intended approach, with the detailed framework still under development.

## Launch Target Moves Beyond 2026

The possible Q1 2027 launch follows earlier plans to introduce the program in 2026. The government’s February budget had identified mid-2026 as its target.

Those earlier plans included a residency requirement and ongoing due diligence throughout the life of the citizenship. However, the latest announcement did not set out how these requirements would apply.

Investment thresholds, qualifying routes and final application requirements were also absent from the announcement.

## What This Means for Prospective Applicants

The proposal could give families another Caribbean citizenship option if it proceeds. For now, the timing and terms remain open.

For anyone considering the route, the next development to watch is the publication of official rules covering eligibility, investment requirements and the application process. The central bank’s proposed role will also need further explanation.

Families comparing citizenship options can assess how a future Saint Vincent program might fit their plans once those details become available.
