Dominica Signs Historic Visa Waiver Agreement With China

A long-awaited moment between Dominica and China bilateral relations took place with the signing of the Inter-Governmental Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption between the Commonwealth of Dominica and the People’s Republic of China.

The waiver was signed on Monday, November 22, 2021, by Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit and the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Commonwealth of Dominica, His Excellency Lin Xianjiang.

As a result of the agreement, Dominica passport-holders will now be able to travel visa-free to one of the world’s largest economies.

Dominica is committed to strengthening its diplomatic relations with nations worldwide, and the signing of a major visa-waiver agreement with the People’s Republic of China is one step in that direction.

In his statement, the Prime Minister thanked the People’s Republic of China for its ongoing support for the development of the country.

“With the signing of this visa-free agreement between our two countries, we will now enhance the relationship and will allow our people to move into each other’s country without the requirement of our visa. This clearly is a special dispensation and special consideration which China is granting, especially in this pandemic period.” Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

China’s Ambassador to Dominica, Lin Xianjiang expressed warm regards and said the two countries had a long history of diplomatic relations, mutual respect, and more.

“We want to push our bilateral relations to new heights and to facilitate international travel between our two peoples. I wish, with this agreement coming into effect, that the bilateral relations can be heightened further, the people-to-people exchange can be made closer and we can bring our friendship to a new level,” Ambassador Lin Xianjiang.

The visa-free agreement takes immediate effect.
