Argentina Announces Citizenship by Investment Program From $350,000

Argentina has officially announced its citizenship by investment program, offering a $350,000 contribution route and an $800,000 government bond option.

Applications are scheduled to open during the fourth quarter of 2026, following the government’s announcement on 2 October.

The announcement establishes the investment thresholds and family contribution structure after months of anticipation.

For prospective applicants, the financial commitment will depend on the route selected and the number and ages of family members included.

How Much Will Argentina Citizenship by Investment Cost?

The contribution route starts at $350,000 for a single applicant, paid as a non-refundable contribution to Argentina’s Treasury. Additional family contributions are:

ApplicantContribution

Principal applicant

$350,000

Spouse

$100,000

Each eligible child aged 18–25

$100,000

Each child under 18

$25,000

Children aged 18–25 must be unmarried and have no children of their own. A principal applicant, spouse and two children under 18 would contribute $500,000, before additional fees.

The family composition matters. Including two adult children instead of two children under 18 would increase the contribution to $650,000.

How Does the $800,000 Government Bond Option Work?

Applicants can alternatively invest $800,000 in a government bond created for the program. Reporting on the announcement describes a seven-year holding period and a zero-coupon structure, with no periodic interest payments.

According to the launch details shared by Jeremy Savory, the bond covers the principal applicant, while dependants require separate non-refundable contributions.

On that basis, a principal applicant, spouse and two children under 18 would commit $950,000: $800,000 in bonds and $150,000 in family contributions, before additional fees.

The two routes involve different financial commitments. The contribution requires less capital upfront but is non-refundable.

The bond ties up substantially more capital for seven years, with repayment subject to the final terms and the government meeting its obligations.

What Checks Will Applicants Face?

Applications will undergo screening covering identity, sources of funds, financial history, jurisdictional risk, criminal and reputational records, and immigration history.

The citizenship investment agency will lead the evaluation, with the National Directorate of Migration responsible for approving or rejecting applications. Meeting the financial threshold does not guarantee approval.

Why Does Argentina’s Program Matter?

Argentina is set to become South America’s first country with a citizenship by investment program. As a G20 economy, it introduces a different proposition into a market where established programs are concentrated in smaller countries.

Its passport also offers substantial international travel access. At the announcement, Economy Minister Luis Caputo highlighted more than 140 destinations accessible without obtaining a visa in advance. Entry conditions still vary by destination.

For investors considering a second citizenship, the assessment will extend beyond passport access. Family costs, application requirements and the capital commitment attached to each route will determine whether Argentina fits their longer-term plans.

When Will Applications Open?

The government has confirmed a Q4 2026 opening window. Its announcement does not provide a specific opening date, complete fee schedule or processing timeline.

The announced investment amounts should therefore be treated as starting thresholds rather than complete application costs. The launch information shared by Jeremy Savory identifies additional expenses for due diligence, processing, passport issuance and professional services, with the final amounts still to be clarified.
