Argentina has officially approved a citizenship by investment (CBI) program, allowing foreign nationals to acquire Argentine citizenship through qualifying economic contributions.
The government has established the legal framework, but applications cannot yet be submitted. Key details such as investment thresholds, eligible sectors, and procedural steps are still pending.
Argentina has created a new Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs under the Ministry of Economy. This agency will manage applications and coordinate background checks with several government entities.
Final decisions will be made by the National Directorate of Migration within 30 business days of receiving recommendations.
The Ministry of Economy is responsible for defining which types of investments will qualify for citizenship. These investment requirements have not yet been published. The agency is also authorized to issue regulations clarifying how applications will be evaluated.
Until these details are released and technical systems are updated, the program will remain inactive.
All applicants will undergo a multi-agency background check involving:
Any denial of citizenship must include a clear explanation based on these agency assessments.
The government has positioned the program as a tool to attract foreign capital, encourage job creation, and support broader economic liberalization.
In parallel, Argentina has applied to rejoin the US Visa Waiver Program, which, if approved, would give Argentine passport holders visa-free access to the United States.
Together, the new CBI program and improved passport access aim to increase Argentina’s global competitiveness and appeal to high-net-worth investors.
The decree also emphasizes compliance with international security standards, helping ensure that the program aligns with Argentina’s diplomatic, migration, and visa policies.
