Botswana Announces a New CBI Program to Launch in 2026

Botswana has confirmed the launch of its first Citizenship by Investment Program, set to open in early 2026 with a minimum contribution of $75,000.

According to the official registration portal BotswanaCitizenship.com, contributions will range between $75,000 and $90,000 under a limited quota system.

This is the world’s most affordable open citizenship by investment program. The entry point undercuts São Tomé and Príncipe’s $90,000 threshold by $15,000.

By comparison, Pakistan’s CIP remains the lowest overall at around $18,000, but its scope is very limited as it is open only to nationals of 54 Commonwealth countries.

Botswana’s offer, if applied universally, would therefore represent the cheapest globally available program.

Missing Details and Possible Costs

While the base contribution is confirmed, the official website does not provide details on processing fees, due diligence charges, or additional costs.

This leaves the total outlay unclear, and in practice, it could prove more expensive than São Tomé once extra fees are included.

The portal also does not clarify:

  • The reason for the $15,000 variation between $75,000 and $90,000
  • Whether higher pricing applies to families or certain categories of applicants
  • Processing timelines and residency requirements
  • Dependent eligibility rules
  • The total number of citizenships available under the quota

Program Branding and Positioning

Officials have branded the initiative as the “Impact Investment Program.” According to the website, the program aims to support Botswana’s economic diversification “beyond its diamond legacy.”

Applicants who qualify by contributing between $75,000 and $90,000 will “not only unlock the privilege of Botswana citizenship but also help fund high-priority initiatives that deliver immediate impact for the people of Botswana.”
