Grenada Delays Its New 30-Day CBI Requirement

Grenada has postponed the introduction of its new 30-day physical presence requirement for Citizenship by Investment applicants, which had been expected to take effect on 31 August 2026.

The requirement will now only come into force once the new Eastern Caribbean Citizenship by Investment Regulatory Authority, ECCIRA, becomes operational and all five participating states agree on a common commencement date.

What Applicants Need to Know

For now, Grenada’s existing Citizenship by Investment rules remain in place, with no mandatory residence or visitation requirement currently in force.

Once implemented, the new framework will require qualifying families to spend a total of 30 days in Grenada during the first five calendar years after citizenship is granted.

Each dependant named in the application must also spend at least five days in Grenada within the first 12 months. If several family members are in Grenada on the same day, that day counts only once towards the family’s overall 30-day total.

The new framework will also introduce an integration requirement, expected to include civic education, cultural orientation or community service, alongside an interview.

Why the Requirement Has Been Delayed

Grenada has linked implementation to the launch of ECCIRA, the new regional regulator being established by Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia.

The five states must first agree on when the regional rules will officially take effect before Grenada introduces its own 30-day requirement.

What This Means for Pending Applications

Applicants can continue applying under the current rules until a new commencement date is announced.

However, the legislation allows the government to apply the new residence provisions to certain pending applications through transitional rules. Filing before the new commencement date may therefore not necessarily guarantee exemption from the requirement.

Further guidance is expected once ECCIRA becomes operational and the participating states confirm the new effective date.
