Portugal has confirmed that its Golden Visa residency program will remain in place, putting to rest speculation over its termination.
The government clarified that while the program will continue, it is preparing structural changes aimed at improving economic impact and administrative efficiency.
Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro made the position clear:
“There is no plan to end it. It is not on the agenda.”
Authorities say the objective is to refine the program, so it continues attracting foreign investment while aligning with national priorities.
Though the real estate route was shut down in 2023 due to the country’s housing crisis, new qualifying investment options are now under review. These alternatives are intended to reflect more sustainable economic goals.
Officials maintain that the current review process will help shape a version of the Golden Visa that is both economically effective and socially fair, without halting the program altogether.
