Portugal has officially launched an online renewal portal for Golden Visa holders, according to announcements published by the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA).
The Portal das Renovações opened on February 16 and is now the exclusive channel for processing renewals under Portugal’s Golden Visa program.
In-person renewal submissions have been discontinued.
Under the new system, Golden Visa holders and their regrouped family members must complete the entire renewal request online.
Applicants are required to:
Physical attendance is required only if biometric data needs to be updated.
If an applicant’s biometric records are invalid or outdated, AIMA will automatically schedule an appointment and notify the applicant of the date, time, and location.
Renewals cannot be finalized without biometric collection where required.
Applicants who already have previously scheduled biometric appointments must attend them. AIMA confirmed that earlier appointment notifications remain valid and binding.
The transition to a fully digital renewal system marks a procedural shift in how Portugal administers Golden Visa compliance.
If the platform operates as intended, it may streamline renewals and reduce the need for repeated in-person visits.
However, given AIMA’s recent implementation challenges across other Golden Visa procedures, some operational adjustments may be expected during the initial phase.
Golden Visa holders should monitor portal functionality closely and ensure biometric requirements are addressed promptly to avoid additional delays.
