Taiwan has officially expanded its Digital Nomad Visa program, allowing eligible remote workers to stay in the country for up to two years.
Originally introduced in 2025 as a six-month visa, the program was extended in January 2026 to provide greater flexibility for international professionals looking to live and work remotely from Taiwan.
The visa is initially issued for six months and can be renewed three additional times in six-month increments, allowing a maximum stay of two years.
The extension is part of Taiwan's broader effort to attract global talent and strengthen its position as a destination for remote workers in Asia.
Applicants must meet minimum annual income thresholds based on their age:
In addition, applicants must demonstrate they have maintained an average bank balance of at least US$10,000 over the previous six months.
The Digital Nomad Visa is available to remote employees and business owners working for companies based outside Taiwan.
Applicants must also provide:
Applications are submitted through Taiwanese diplomatic missions, with processing generally taking seven to ten business days.
Alongside the Digital Nomad Visa, Taiwan continues to offer its Employment Gold Card, a combined work permit and residence program designed for highly skilled professionals.
While the Digital Nomad Visa focuses on temporary remote workers, the Gold Card provides a pathway for eligible professionals seeking a longer-term future in Taiwan, including the possibility of permanent residency after meeting the required conditions.
